The Museum der Kulturen Basel is one of the leading ethnographic museums in Europe. It’s world-renowned collection numbers more than 320,000 objects and about 50’000 historic pictures. On Wednesday afternoon (10.10.2018) the English and German classes had the unique opportunity of visiting the exhibition BIG Things Interpretations Dimensions.

We discovered that Big doesn’t mean the same thing everywhere. How is size defined and measured? And what’s so impressive about big things? One class took the guided tour in German which explained more about the cultural dimensions of bigness. The other groups explored things for themselves.

In the museum’s courtyard we all got to enjoy the Children’s holiday city with games from all over the world. Japanese wooden dolls (Kokeshi), kite construction, making balls from recycled materials, wooden games like pinball, or the big hit of the afternoon baking bread over an open fire.
